A New Doodle Sketchbook

I was gifted a sketchbook from my son Brian & his wife Sarah.  The cover of the book is van Gogh's Starry Night.

My first doodle in the book was inspired by the cover.  Once I had it done, I thought it would be fun to do a color version.  I scanned the black and white doodle and printed a copy than colored it with markers. Here are both doodles.

After doing this I decided to do this to all the doodles in the book. Here are the doodles I have completed so far in both black and white and color.

When I had finished coloring all of the above, I discovered that I don't enjoy the coloring process as much as I do drawing the original black and white doodle.  I like the results of the colored doodles, but I don't enjoy doing the coloring process.

In the past I have done the original doodle using colored markers and my black sharpie when I create the doodle. This was when I first started doodling and only did small ones with no boarder. I have been thinking of doing this again because I have so many good comments on the colored doodles. Here are a few examples.

I have come a long way from these first doodles.  I now use a much larger sketchbook and draw boarders. The problem in doing the original doodle in color is that I don't have a black and white version that I can print off for other people to color.

In the meantime, I have been working on a commission I got to paint the door of a small decorative cabinet for a neighbor.  I'll post photos when it is finished.
