Five more slate paintings

I finished 5 more paintings on slate.  In my last post I mentioned that I might dig out some old Amish patterns that I did in the past to paint on the slate.  After thinking about it I changed my mind.  I have been in a fruit and flower painting mood.  I drew some new patterns featuring both fruit and flowers and painted them on 3 of the slates.  I did my "Peek-a-boo Kitty" on another one and butterflies on the other one.  Here are my newest slate paintings.

The two shows I am doing are on August 4 and 6.  I will be showing the slate and mostly smaller items at these shows.  I have a few more craft items that I will be working on before the shows.  Once the shows are over I am going to paint some larger canvas paintings.

The Vicksburg Cultural Arts Center is in the process of  moving to a new location.  They will be in a temporary gallery for a few months until the new gallery is renovated.  I thought I will show a few large canvas paintings that I did in the past in the temporary place and paint some new large ones for the grand opening of the new place.  Also, I am scheduled to have my own show at the COA for the months of September and October.

I have a couple of trips that will be happening in the month of August. One is to NC and the other is to the UP of Michigan.  By the time I get back the summer will be over and it will be fall!

Five slate paintings plus one framed canvas painting.

I have two one day shows coming up the first weekend in August.  I mentioned in a previous post that I had some slate that I bought at a yard sale.  I decide these shows would be the perfect place to display some slate paintings.  Back 35 plus years ago when I was in Ohio I sold many paintings on slate.  At that time most of the patterns I painted were of Amish kids.  That was very popular in the 70's and 80's.  Since I live in Amish country again I debated on using some of those designs but decided to go with what has been selling recently.  Here are new smaller versions of subject matter you have seen before on canvas that are now done on slate.

I also did a new 8X10 canvas painting called "Sunflowers in Burgundy Vase"

I'm not sure what I will paint next.  I still have some more slate.  Maybe I will dig out some of those old Amish patterns and do one just to see if there is any interest.  I have to think about that.

In my last post I mentioned we were going to celebrate the 4th of July with our family.  Here is a picture of Roger and me with our sons and their wives and our daughter.  It was so nice to all be together again.

Three Painted Hand Saws

In the past two weeks I have been painting three hand saws which are commissioned jobs for Countryside Creation.  It has been a long time since I painted a saw.  The most recent was about 5 years ago and before that it was over 30 years ago.  That was back in the day when I only painted craft items and was a tole painting teacher.  That was a long time ago but they say, "What goes around comes around" so here I am painting saws again.  Here is the photos of the most recent hand saw paintings.  The first one I call "Down on the Farm".  Don't forget to click on the photo to see a close-up.

The next one is a version of "Phantom Herd".

The third saw is one of my "Fun Flowers".  I do not have a pattern for this one.  I free hand the drawing on the saw with a chalk pencil.  I always have fun painting fun flowers!

Today is July 1 so I want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July.  We are going to have a mini family reunion this holiday weekend.  Our two sons and their wives will be here.  Brian & Sarah are now living in Dayton, OH and Mark and Leslie live in NC.  Our daughter Kim lives here here.  It will be nice to all be together.

I have not decided what I will paint next.  I have some slate that I got at a yard sale that is cleaned and ready for paint.  Slate painting is another Blast from the Past.  I did many slate paintings in the 80's. They were very popular back then.  I have also been tossing and idea for a canvas painting around in my head. I'm just not sure what I will do next.  I'll wait until all the company is gone then see what I am in the mood to paint.
